MÉANDRES / MEANDERINGS [Phase 2]

In the group exhibition, Méandres / Meanderings, Curator Nicole Gingras considers the discipline of drawing: its transformation, not only as a practice but also through the tools employed in the process of mark-making. This exhibition is the culmination of a process that began over a year ago, as Manon Labrecque, Diane Morin and Annie Thibault have been working closely with the curator in the development of their projects at DAÏMÕN, Production Centre in Media Art and Photography.

Each of the artists explores, in her own way, the impulses behind the act of drawing. Manon Labrecque pares the concept of drawing down to sound; Diane Morin draws with shadow and light; Annie Thibault evokes a dialogue between her drawings and videos of microscopic organisms in motion.

Nicole Gingras is an author and curator associated with various museums, galleries and festivals in Canada and abroad. In 2005, the Canada Council awarded her the Joan-Lowndes Prize for her independent curatorial work in the visual and media arts. She teaches at Université du Québec à Montréal and Concordia University. She lives in Montreal.

In her multidisciplinary practice, Manon Labrecque creates, among other things, kinetic installations and videos. These have been widely exhibited, nationally and internationally. She lives in Montreal.

Diane Morin's multidisciplinary practice includes videos and automated installations. In 2007, she will exhibit her work at Mercer Union (Toronto) and Optica (Montreal). She lives in Montreal.

Annie Thibault utilizes organic matter as the primary source material for her artistic practice. In 2007, she will participate in an exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa). She lives in Gatineau.

Méandres / Meanderings is a DAÏMÕN production, within the Landscape Laboratories programme. This exhibition is a co-presentation with AXENÉO7 and will take place at AXENÉO7 and the STUDIÕ at DAÏMÕN in the complex, La Filature. The artists and curator will be present during the opening.

The artists, curator, DAÏMÕN and AXENÉO7 thank the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Canada Council for the Arts and le Service des arts, de la culture et des lettres de la Ville de Gatineau.
