IN SITU: Flickering
Ed Pien
April 23 - June 22, 2008
Lecture: Wednesday April 23, 6 - 8 pm
Opening: Wednesday May 21, 6 - 8 pm
RESIDENCY/EXHIBITION
AXENÉO7 is pleased to announce Ed Pien as the first artist-in-residence of its new IN SITU
residency program. Based in Toronto, Pien is an internationally-active artist, known for his large-scale
paper-based installations that incorporate a variety of drawing techniques to explore cultural
mythologies and the human psyche. During his residency at AXENÉO7, Pien will create a new
installation in the exhibition spaces: Flickering, that will include drawing, sound, video and
incorporate the play of light and cast shadows. This work continues his interest in eliciting poetic
perceptual experiences that celebrate the tangible and intangible, the real and the imagined.
The IN SITU Residency begins with a lecture by Pien on Wednesday April 23, 6-8pm. The
presentation will be given in English, followed by a bilingual question period. The exhibition
spaces then remain open as the artist works on site, so that the creative process, usually hidden
from sight, is accessible to the public. Other work by Pien, large-scale paper cuts and ink
drawings, will also be on display. The official opening of Flickering will take place on Wednesday
May 21, 6-8pm, at the end of the residency period. The exhibition continues until June 22.
